It could make even the most hardened players wince at its ghastly sights and yet it does so without even showing that much blood and gore. Similar to its predecessor, it feels like a fairytale that has been violently torn apart with some of the most intensely graphic and obscene abominations filling its place. I certainly enjoyed my time in this creepy world, and I was interested enough to go through its DLCs as well as the second game. Then when you play and hear the proper audio alongside the visuals, that should hopefully reel you in. My overall playtime is from going back to get more collectibles and also doing a speedrun.Īltogether, I think you should give a quick glance at a screenshot or two, and maybe a part of the trailers, and that should tell you whether you're interested in the way this world looks. The last thing to note is that it's length is somewhere around 3 to 4 hours, depending upon your speed through places and if you do all of the collectibles. But none of it is a dealbreaker by any means. You may end up falling off places where it's hard to see your movement, and your interaction with some objects can be a bit finicky. The biggest problem I have with this game is some of the platforming sections, especially due to the depth of view with the camera. But it's still probably worth a run through those if you're interested.Īnd of course, there is Little Nightmares II now, which I think is a very strong follow-up but of course this is a review for the original, and you should definitely play this first, in any case.
The DLCs (particularly the last one) does answer a question or two that you might have had, but I would say that they're a bit weaker in quality because the first two retread some of the same areas and don't bring a whole lot new to the table.
It's somewhat of a mystery though there are some metaphors you might be able to glean from what you find.
You are so tiny while the rest of this world is large and looming, and you'll find distorted humans and other odd creatures. The sound and music overall are strong in painting a creepy atmosphere, along with the difference in dimensions between yourself and everything else. It's clear the game has some inspiration from those games, but what's designed is a bit different. People seem to commonly bring up LIMBO and INSIDE. The art style is somewhat cartoon-like in a way, though that may not be the right word, and it helps paint a weirdly grotesque view for the horrors you come across.
